I don’t set resolutions for the new year. I sent intentions, mantras, and words to live by.
My 2016 mantra is below so you can skip ahead to that. Here is my recap of 2015.
Nourish. 2015 called on me to nourish my mind, body, and soul. And quite unexpectedly, I did that through travel. The sheer vast and exotic nature of my travel this year has nourished me to a new level. I have crossed the world and found myself the most at ease and peaceful in pure nature. The wild Serengeti and pristine Queenstown, New Zealand have changed my life.
January and February brought me on the honeymoon of a lifetime, challenging my fears and comfort level on a safari in the middle of the Serengeti and nourishing my soul (and appetite) on a private resort in Zanzibar. March led me to New York, as I booked a plane ticket for random dates simply because it was a good deal, but ended up being the most perfect timing to be there for two best friends. April brought me to the glistening coast of Brittany (Bretagne, France) and the historical beaches of Normandy (Basse-Normandie, France). May brought me to Los Angeles for my little bro’s wedding. July and August brought my family and friends to me in Paris, to celebrate our marriage with the French side of the family. August also brought a mini-moon to Burgundy (Bourgogne) to relax after this aforementioned third wedding and a trip to the French Alps, namely Chamonix Mont Blanc. October bought me to the exotic Dubai, somewhere I’ve been craving to visit for a long time. I loved it. November was spent mostly in Australia (for my little bro’s second wedding – hey it runs in the family apparently) and New Zealand, which left us stunned by pristine, untouched natural beauty. December brought a visit home, to New Jersey and New York, that was a welcome retreat filled with love. December 31 brings us to Vienna, to celebrate our one year marriage anniversary and NYE. We are surely ending 2015 the way we lived it.
In case you are wondering, yes I did spend time in our current home of Paris and yes I did work. A lot. I coached, I trained, I held exercise classes in the park, I consulted, I joined and participated in female entrepreneur groups, I wrote, I re-certified, I educated, I launched. But I also lived. I played. I took time for myself. That’s what having my own business means to me. That’s what nourishment means to me.
As I look back on my goals for 2015 that I wrote in this blog post one year ago, I accomplished one of them. Sanity is Sexy: Mantras to Inspire a Healthy Mindset lives. I planned two other projects: The UYS self-study program and the UYS Experience retreats. I thought hard about these projects during the year and it wasn’t the right time yet. Instead of forcing myself to execute and push forward on something that wasn’t ready to be birthed, I decided to wait. I’m glad I did.
2016: Wild & Free
I always let my words for a new year just come to me. (And there are two questions below that help with this.) Wild & Free have been calling my name for months now.
Wild: mind-blowing, surprising, adventurous
Free: calming, freedom, unleashed
2016 is going to bring me ideas, projects, and life events that will feel wild. Wild in the best possibly way and wild in the scariest possible way. I’m leaving my comfort zone and going for it. I’m letting the wild take over.
2016 is going to bring me freedom. Freedom from others, from expectations, from myself. I will not hold back. I will not give a shit about anything that isn’t important to me. I will only focus on the important things in my life. The rest will fall away. I don’t want to feel trapped by thoughts and feelings that don’t work for me. As the French say, “Je m’en fous.” I don’t care.
Hello 2016. Let’s get wild.
To create your own mantra, answer these 2 questions:
1. How do you want to feel?
2. What do you want more of?
